Eudora-J 1.3.8.5.JE.ESC is a slightly modified version of Eudora-J 1.3.8.5. While they are identical in functionality, Eudora-J 1.3.8.5.JE.ESC achieves the followings.
1. Two plug-in files, "detect ESC" and "JE13 Plug-In", have been incorporated into the Eudora program itself so that they do not have to be placed in the Preferences folder inside the System folder. "detect ESC" is necessary to repair corrupted JIS code. "JE13 Plug-In" changes the Eudora's menu and essential file names (such as jushinbo) into English. Since the original English version of Eudora has become very popular, it is easier to seek help from other people such as a computing center personnel if the menu items and file names are shown in English.
2. Based on Eudora-J 1.3.8.5.JE.ESC, this package is pre- configured to be used on a floppy disk for people who need to go to different machines to send and receive mail. (e.g. a computer lab) As long as a Macintosh is running on Japanese Language Kit or KanjiTalk, all mail will be stored on a floppy disk using this package.
(If you are using Eudora-J via dial-up, you will need navigation script in the preferences folder of the system folder. However, if you or somebody you know are familiar with ResEdit, the navigation script can also be incorporated into Eudora program itself just like "detect ESC" and "JE 13 Plug-In".)
1. Once you expand the package, you will find the following three items. Copy them to a floppy disk.
2. Click on Eudora Starter. (IMPORTANT: NEVER CLICK ON Eudora-J 1.3.8.5.JE.ESC)
3. Set up Eudora by supplying your logon, real name, and return address in the Configuration menu. Your POP account is occasionally different from your own address. If you encounter problems, check with your computing center personnel.
4. Set switches to your likings in the Switches menu.
5. Your floppy is now ready.
