RLA Archive Organization
The RLA Archive is organized as follows:
1. There are nine year links to choose from (1989 - 1997). Each year link
has a list of languages about which articles were written that year.
2. Each link to a language in the langauge list is a collection of links to
articles written about that language in the year selected.
3. Each collection of links to articles for a particular language in a
particular year contains the articles in .pdf and .html formats.
Technical Requirements
The RLA Archive can be browsed using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser
or the Netscape Navigator browser. For viewing articles in .pdf format,
the user must have Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on the machine. The Acrobat
Reader is available for free at http://www.adobe.com
Because of the varying browser window sizes on users' computers, the
articles in .html format may appear slightly different on different machines.
Also, they may not appear in a perfect format when printed. Therefore, it is
recommended that .pdf versions be used when articles are to be printed.
If the intention is to read the article of the screen, anyone of .html or .pdf
formats may be used.
Searching the RLA Archive
The RLA Archive can be searched for articles matching certain
criteria specified by the user. The articles can be searched by:
a) the year the article was published in the journal
b) the language about which the article was written
c) the title of the article
d) the author of the article
The user does not need to specify all the above mentioned criteria. For
example, if only the year is entered (e.g 1989), then all articles
for all languages, written by all authors in 1989 will be returned.
Also, the exact title or author name need not be specified. For example, if the
user is looking for articles written by Michael Lastinger,
then entering Michael as the author is sufficient. Of course, this will return
all articles whose author's first name is Michael.
The user has to be cautious of one thing however. Because of certain techinical
difficulties that cannot be over come at this time, the database
cannot handle situations where an apostrphe - or single quote - ( ' ) appears
in any of the search fields. Therefore, the user is requested to enter
the search field without the use of an apostrophe, if there is one. The results
returned thereof are the same as though an apostrophe was used.
This incovenience is highly regretted.
